About OT in Second Life(R)

The Occupational Therapy Center at Jefferson in Second Life(R) has 3 main aims:

  • to educate the public about the profession of Occupational Therapy
  • to provide immersive experiences for Secondlife (R) residents, that provide information about health conditions and issues
  • to collaborate with others with an interest in healthcare, rehabilitation, or wellness.
  • The Center also provides training for graduate students in a virtual environment, to inform them about the process of developing health-related educational programs and enable venues for them to actively create the content and process for these programs.

Susan Toth-Cohen, PhD, OTR/L (SL name Zsuzsa Tomsen) directs the Center. These efforts are part of Dr. Toth-Cohen’s ongoing quest to discover and create new educational venues that will serve the needs of the occupational therapy profession.

  1. I tried to view some of the info you referred to in your blogs but unfortunately CCHS is blocking the sites. go figure, a health system blocking info for health professionals…I guess they don’t like your choice of servers?

Anyway, I can not find EduislandII? How do I access that?

  2. You’re not the only one who cannot access SecondLife (SL) from work. Ironically, I am only able to access from home! I’m not sure exactly what the issues are, but I believe it has to do with institutional firewalls that are set up for internet security. So, I suggest accessing from home. And, in case it is not clear from the blog and posts, SL locations can only be accessed when the SL program is running (when you click the slurl, you are prompted to start SL). Please feel free to email me if you need more information. Thanks for your interest!
