So much to do, so little time (to blog)

No posts here for quite some time, we have been so busy with multiple projects, as follows:

  1. Bachelor’s to Masters students are finishing up their projects on consultation within the virtual world (for a caregiver support group for persons with Alzheimer’s or dementia) and the interface between real life and Second Life activities. Both are fascinating projects, stay tuned for results. I hope to post the students’ final powerpoints here.

  2. Together with fellow Second Life resident Geri Kuhn, we have implemented several meetings of an Alzheimer’s care giver support group. Topics included caring for the caregiver (presented by OT student Jillian Fierenza), the Shriver Report, strategies for managing difficult behaviors, and what we know about preventing Alzheimer’s. Next on the schedule for December 15 is Art and Alzheimer’s disease. We hope to have a selection of art depicting the many facets of Alzheimer’s disease and are in the process of contacting artists for permission to upload selected works for a gallery at the regular support group meeting place–the Garden of Healthy Aging.
  3. Second year and new students continue to work hard developing a new mental health exhibit focused on depression and addiction. We expect to complete this exhibit by the end of December, 2010.
